I just fired up W98 and did a "Find" for "print*.*".  There is a file, 
"printer.txt" which describes how to get the proper drivers for Deskjet 
printers (www.hp.com/cposupport/eschome.html).  If you cannot find this .txt 
file on your sister's computer, let me know and I will send you a copy of it.

BTW, I have my W98 set up to use a Deskjet 697C printer which is very 
similar to the 500C printer.  Did you/your sister go to the Windoze Control 
Panel, click on "printers," click on "add new printer" and follow the 
on-screen instructions?
