Recently, Slashdot had a write up about SGL. It installs from the source code of the various packages so that you can customize and optimize it to work most efficiently on your hardware. It starts with the initial install, by asking you questions about what you plan to use your system for, hardware info about your system and such, then it compiles the kernel based on this info. Then when you cast spells (their terms for adding packages, IIRC), it downloads the source and compiles it specifically for your system. Hope that helps.
BTW, the official site for Sorcerer is http://sorcerer.wox.org .
