No problems using my 33.6 modem and Arachne 1.70, rev 3, running on a ramdrive. John was complaining also about the way the sites were rendered and displayed. If such were the case we can usually find fault with the web site itself in the design of the web page. There are some sites that I visit almost every day. Sometimes the sites are downloaded very fast and at other times they seem to take forever. "http://www.cnn.com" is an example. The problem probably has to do with the traffic on the server. On slow news days the site downloads fast. On days when we have lots of fast breaking and very exciting and sensational news stories the site downloads very slowly. On days when WalMart and KMart are announcing special sales and spectacular savings there will be a lot of people going to their web sites. Also there will be more people going to those web sites on the 1st and on the 15th of the month because those days are paydays when nearly everybody has lots of money and anxious to go shopping to spend it all.
