No !!
both contain machine code.

Clerence has alreafy described the difference better than I can.

But exe is neither slower nor larger (expect the small exe header whith
which each exe has to start ...)

PS: Think of it ... if arachne.exe were not machine code, you couldn't
start it, but had to start a compile.com which would translate the exe into
machine code ...
