Dear List: After a week of exploring options for networking DOS machines we are very impressed with CUTCP. After considerable massaging of the CONFIG.TEL we were able to transfer files to a WINNT machine, a LINUX Redhat machine, another DOS machine, and all over ethernet. A serial cable also worked.
The TELNET.APM in ARACHNE is basically the same program, but the CONFIG.TEL that comes with CUTCP is more configurable. One interesting mystery was the reference to "server mode" when you start the program. After various failures to get any server action out of it James discovered that this is possible in ftp mode but not TELNET mode. Also it helped to disable the passwords section rather than listing them all. Meanwhile I had abject failure with BOBCAT which dials but wont talk. I keep wanting to hit the F7 key! Also I had the most dramatic crash yet from ARACHNE 1.70 tryign to access a program which amusingly bore my name: KALI It was on the http://www.fdisk.com site. Kali
