ok right, putting comments in works too, maybe I will email them about
that, it would be nice to be able to see my iname emails from home (that
is my 'public' email address that gets too many junk mails because I
published it briefly 4 years ago..). Currently I cycle 5 miles (8km) to
the library where I get 20 minutes of internet for free.

seems difficult to believe that, since this is a 486DX50 running on
a 14400bps ppp link (with no compression), and the websites can cope
with thousands of hits per hour on fast links.. still, I see somebody
else says they have multitasking off and it still happens so I will try
'httpkeepalive no' and see if that makes a difference.

maybe Arachne is too fast for pppd?
