Hi List,
Just wanted to forward some great info I found...after getting the news about
Yahoo, I went searching...found a service that offers FREE email, with POP3
and SMTP, and also a web based service that is compatible with Arachne
as well as Lynx 386...don't know about Bobcat though. Anyway, if interested
got to http://www.SoftHome.net, they require a short questionairre, but the
data is not much more than what a Windows 9X browser already tells the world!
As for Yahoo automatically unsubscribing users from lists, I don't know if that
information is correct. I host my own little group, InternetInDOS, originally it
was at eGroups, but Yahoo Groups acquired eGroups...I have had some level
of difficulty logging in to do maintainence and such using Arachne or Lynx, but
have been able to get in using Opera 3.62 in Windows 3.1 and my Win95 machine
using IE5.01, but since I'm the list owner, Yahoo has not sent me any notice that
DOS users or someone on "email only" are going to be discontinued. If I learn
of something new in this regards, I will let eveyone know!
Anyway, get free email at www.SoftHome.net, then use whatever client you wish.
One note, they do use "authenticated SMTP", so for some email programs you
might need to fetch your POP mail first, then send, or, you can use your ISPs
SMTP server instead (that's what I do most of the time!)
C U L8R!
