Hello Arachnians: I am dropping this note to inform you guys about my observations concerning two Arachne-compatible web-based email services, both of which are free.
They are: 1. http://www.myrealbox.com 2. http://www.linuxfreemail.com Myrealbox offers web-based email, POP3 and IMAP and SMTP. The web-based email is not compatible with the Links browser running in BasicLinux. With Links I can't access the login form. Also it is not compatible with Nettamer. In attempting to use Nettamer for POP3/SMTP I am unable to contact the server at "mail.myrealbox.com". I was able to sign up for myrealbox by using Arachne. Linuxfreemail offers web-based email and POP3 and IMAP, but not SMTP. It is compatible with Arachne and Nettamer for POP3. I have not yet tried it with BasicLinux for POP3. For web-based email it is compatible with Arachne and with BasicLinux with Links. A truly fantastic feature is that linuxfreemail will let you Telnet to "linuxfreemail.com" and run Pine in Telnet session. This feature works with the APM Telnet client for Arachne and also with the Telnet client provided with BasicLinux. I was not able to sign up for linuxfreemail by using Arachne. I was successful in signing up for the service by using Links running in BasicLinux. In comparing the two services there are advantages and disadvantages of each. In considering all of the trade-offs, I have selected linuxfreemail as my personal favorite. My favorite pick might not be the best for someone else. There are no right and wrong answers that everyone should accept, so no flame wars, please. Also there are other alternatives for web-based email sites that work with Arachne. Thomas Tabler has mentioned http://www.saintmail.com. That one works just fine for him. He has found by testing that the system does not censor emails so as to exclude subject matter that religious people never think about. The system just trusts in the piety of its subscribers. Hoping you all will be very reverent and rejoiceful during your special Holy Days, whatever your faith tradition, and all you guys had better stand up for the Rite of Spring! All the best, Sam Heywood -- This mail was written by user of The Arachne Browser - http://arachne.cz/
