Seti has a big problem.
Too many users.

You and up doing the same work over and over again. (see the newsgroup
sci.astro.seti)

They artificially slow down their client, and they are still overwhelmed by
users wanting to participate. (Seti was planned for 50-max. 100.000 users
... they have more than 2 million ... and the computer speed has also risen
drastically)

Maybe you should have a look into other projects.
Like folding@home -> help decode protein folding
distributed.net -> extremely highly optimized clients for multiple projects
(at the moment cracking a cryptographic code and finding OGRs which are
mathematical constructs useful for many scientific calculations)
there is support for tons of OSes (including DOS)
