Hello:

Nearly everybody here knows about the well known freeware
file-finding utility for DOS known as FINDIT.COM,
16244 bytes, 3-19-86, and most of you probably already have
a copy of it. Back in the days of DOS 3.30 almost every
knowledgeable DOS user had a copy of this program. It is
perfectly compatible with later versions of MS-DOS and with
modern versions of DR-DOS. If you don't have yours, just
write and I will send you a copy via private email. I don't
know where you can download it.

For those who don't know how FINDIT.COM works, here is a
screen capture of the program's built-in help:

==========
C:\>findit
FINDIT, Version 1.0, by Larry McMains

FINDIT will search all directories of a disk and find all the files that
match patterns specified for the file name and/or file extension

Format: FINDIT [drive:]filename[.[ext]] [/Q]

  Where:
"drive" is the optional letter of the drive to be searched.

"filename" and "ext" are search patterns which may contain the
global characters ? and *. Imbedded "*"'s are supported.
     For example:

        "A*D.COM" will find "AD.COM", "ABD.COM", "ABCD.COM", ...
"*D" will find all files with names ending in "D"
"A?D." will find all files with three character names that
begin with "A", end in "D", and have no extension.

The /Q (Quiet) option will suppress the heading and trailer lines
  normally typed.

Does anyone here know where I can get a somewhat equivalent program
for Linux?
