Hello Arachnids: Did you guys know that it is not safe to surf the net with JavaScript enabled? Your computer can get smitten by a Trojan simply by visiting a web page.
It was recently reported in the newsgroup "alt.military.retired" that if you visit "http://m-joke.8m.com/winged.htm", your computer will get smitten with a Trojan known as "JS/IEStart.gen.c" This would happen only if you are using MSIE with JavaScript enabled. The only thing that might protect you in this case would be an AV program running in the background and having up to date virus definition files. BTW, this particular Trojan doesn't do very much damage, and the problem that it causes is easy to fix. If your machine does get smitten by this Trojan the only problem will be that your start-page will be changed. Your machine would not be susceptible to the attack unless you were surfing the net with MSIE and with JavaScript enabled. In the case of the website mentioned, the Trojan will change your MSIE start-page to a porn site. The very sad thing about this is that not even Saint Frigidaire, peace be unto her, would ever get the impression that the web site author is is a porn enthusiast. Maybe the web-site author isn't one of those, and maybe he isn't even aware of the damage that some unscrupulous advertisers are doing to his reputation. The website actually does have some very interesting and useful information. Sam Heywood -- This mail was written by user of The Arachne Browser - http://arachne.cz/
