Hello Fellow Arachnids:

While online a few minutes ago, and while using Arachne Insight
to compose an email message, I suddenly heard a click and then
a dialtone on my modem. Then the modem started to dial, apparently
all by itself. I know I wasn't doing anything to cause the modem
to hangup and then go off-hook and then dial again. I reacted to
this very disconcerting experience by turning off the main power
switch on my computer.

This isn't the first time this has happened. I have reported this
to the list before. Also the same thing has happened to me on a
couple of other occasions. I always react by immediately shutting
down my power. I have been thinking about rigging a switch to
simply disconnect my modem line in case this happens again.

BTW, I am connecting by using LSppp. I am not using the Klos dialer
or any other kind of dialer that can be set up so as to automatically
re-dial and re-connect after a sudden disconnect from the server.

Do you guys suppose that I am experiencing some intrusion attempts?
Maybe I just have some kind of very quirky hardware/software problem
that shows up once in a blue moon.

Does anybody have any ideas as to what might be the cause of the
problem?
