Hello Neil: I use the Nokia Model 7610. You can set it up just as though it were an ordinary external modem on COMx. Use a modem init string of ATZ. I haven't yet discovered any other modem init strings that will work with my cell phone, but I haven't conducted many experiments along that line. It works with Arachne and Nettamer running under native DOS. I have tested it also with BasicLinux and it works fine. Also it works with Windows Dial-Up Networking. You do not have to install any drivers for it. It also works with my hand-held Windows CE version 1.0 device (Phillips VELO 1). In order for it to work you have to subscribe to some kind of internet linkage service provided by your cellular service provider. It works only when you are in your home area and receiving a digital signal. It won't work for any kind of internet service outside of your home area. I set my modem speed for 115200. The actual connection speed seems to be just a little bit slower than that of a 33.6 modem. I can't provide you with the figures and the results of timing a page download.
