Thanks a lot for the suggestion, Thomas.  Up until just now having
performed a number of experiments, I didn't know that it was possible
to use LSppp without having to use its built-in dialer feature.  Until
you suggested it, I had never even thought of trying anything like that.
I have now figured out a way to make LSppp complete the connection and
to get the DNS numbers and IP assignment even if I use some other
program to dial up and login.  I have now learned to use LSppp with
Netdial and also with Comtool.  I can't yet determine if I can get those
modems I have been having problems with to work with my new methods of
using Lsppp.  I don't have my modem cable at my home location.  I'll let
you know later if your suggestion has panned out for me.  I think it
will work.  Have to wait and see.
