I have come into possession of a new DOS that has the same speed ability as IBM PC-DOS 3.3 without its 32 Mb limitation.
Unless this DOS turns out to be buggy, it should be the best speed choice for anyone that doesn't need FAT32 or LFN support. That's pretty much anyone in their right mind. <G> I didn't have MSDOS 6.2+ on hand to test with this time, but we already know that MSDOS 5.0 is faster. Here's the new test - unfortunately on a fast box - a 100Mhz Cyrix '586 with a 100 Mb single partition drive: MSDOS 5.0 Speedchk on RD times: 3.0 sec / 3.0 sec HD recognized ;-) PCDOS 3.30 ditto: 2.1 sec / 2.1 sec HD NOT recognized ! NUDOS 3.31 ditto: 2.1 sec / 2.1 sec HD recognized !!!!! I arrive at the decimal place by averaging 10 runs. The only downside as far as I can see is a legal one. - Clarence Verge. -- Using Arachne 1.66 on DSL.
