Isn't it also true that as processors become more powerful (and faster) that 
Winmodems, Winprinters, Winperipherals tap into that increased power and you 
essentially end up with a processor with residual power less than the power 
of the previous family of processors.

The HP 1000 printer does not provide drivers for its use, but relies on the 
"excess" power of the CPU to do its printing.

I tried to do some multi-tasking with a 300 MHz cpu on a Windoze computer and 
I swear that it was slower than when I did multi-tasking on a 33 MHz cpu 
machine using DESQview.
