Dear Caverge and others:
Well, I could of course take the time to do a quick install and
offer my rudimentary opinions on A. 1.71/dos, but I can't afford a
lot of time for this thing right now. My whole strategy has been to
switch to using another OS for many of my Internet needs as I don't
feel so limited and I am interested in finding out some about using
Spanish or other charactersets in DOS with Arachne. I have a friend
who is perhaps interested in communicating with me and others useing
the Internet to learn more about Spanish. Sorry, I don't feel very
"devoted" to Arachne-dev, but as I find it so far, a lot of the
development efforts are centered around a few key people. I feel a
lot of this is like, a trial-and-error thing with load-
ing webpages and so forth. Then this is extrapolated into certain
"findings" that the developers can use more intensely with there more
advanced equipment. A lot of this is tiring as it involves sending
a lot of data over the internet using various "schemes" or compression
methods. I think this is could be good. An initial "experimenting"
perhaps is good. Is there possible perhaps in the future the ability
to host more APM packages on the Arachne server? This could lead to
the browser becoming more popular with a larger number of DOS users.
Nevertheless, how can we proceed with the new HTML 4.01 standard {yes
maybe many of us don't like it, but it's the new standard, you know!}
without an ability to check how webpages load in a diff OS with a diff
browser? Cross-development efforts appear to be the norm. Hey, how
could we possibly take on as a group of Arachnifites all the diff
projects necessary to make DOS and Arachne a more successful Internet
platform and OS? Dos is now rapidly moving into the status of being a
"companion" OS for many. The point is, much is not freely available
for download anymore as it used to be in the past.
Yours,
Thomas
