What pppd do you have installed? (Although I heard that RedHat 5.2 RPM's should be compatible, I've never managed to get any pppd installed in Monkey) And last time I tried installeng Arachne 1.66b the installation script complained obout this glibc version; did you just copy the installation out of the archive to the directory?
