Dear Kali and List:
I recently finished with basic installation of Redhat Linux
6 and have SVGALIB library files, but only a VGA monitor.
Would the Arachne svgalib version 1.66 for Linux work, and what
would be the differences between it and the GGI version?
As an alternative to the later Linux versions of Lynx, can you
use the arachne 'paste' function to insert local files into
a "textarea" field in webmail? I was hoping for some solution
to the problem with not having an e-mail client in Linux. I
know it is possible, but it takes an awful lot of work, it seems
to me, unless I would get an SLIP account from my ISP provider.
Also, since I have ZGV jpeg, jpg viewer, can it be used as
a "plug-in" for Arachne? Many thanx in advance on any suggestions.
I think Redhat is O.K. on this hardware, but I don't think I would
use a newer kernel, or try to jam more programs on the hard drive.
It has it's hands full with what I have now. I have thought of
making a small secondary dos drive and using Dosemu to run VIEW
so I can decode Word 97 and XP files, but it is limited to 2 MBs
only. I would rather work on getting some Word decoder to work
within the Linux 'shell' first, then consider that. After I
get done with working on the linux decoder for Word, then I want
to try out the improvements to Arachne.
yours,
