video initialization problem

Hi, I have a Toshiba T3200SX Laptop computer which consists of a 386sx cpu, about 5 meg of ram, and a 640x480 vga, 16 grayscales on laptop screen or 256 colours on crt, I am using the laptop screen. Now the problem is I can not get past the video setup screen, I have used univesa driver and select vesa and I have tried select 640x480 256 etc... but no matter what I try it comes up with the error cannot initialize video, any suggestions would be appreciated.
