Are you now telling us that you can > duplicate this problem on your computer(s)....??? I can duplicate Bastiaans problem no sweat! but only if I boot this Win95 machine into straight DOS. Then, and only then "Your Computer" will lock up Arachne hard. I normally run Arachne from within a full screen DOS window, with all machine resources for Arachne's exclusive use. Under these conditions "Your Computer" is not a problem. I've done some more checking. I have Arachne 1.71UE01 installed on another Apricot LS Pro, that machine is a 486DX/2 66. The O/S is M$-DOS 6.2, and "Your Computer" works fine under all circumstances. In view of this I must clarify my previous information. If you are running Arachne from a normal DOS machine "Your Computer" will proberbly work fine. Having checked with Andy Millward this evening who has 1.71UE01 running on a Hewlett-Packard Vectra 486DX 50 also using M$-DOS 6.2 that I set up for him, his "Your Computer" works fine too. > b) If Arachne is run from a DOS Window in W95 "My Computer" works fine. > "My Computer" is only found in Win9x+...."Your Computer" is in Arachne. > ....I believe you are talking about the Arachne "Your Computer"....?? > ...and is this only on Bastiaan's computer(s) or is it broke on your > computer(s), also...?? Bastiaan is running Arachne on a Win95 machine booted to DOS, and has the problem. If I boot my machine into DOS I get the problem too. So I can reproduce Bastiaans problem here. >> d) And proberbly of most interest; If the machine is booted into W95 >> quit to DOS prompt and Arachne started from the command line >> "My Computer" works fine. > We need to clarify this... >> It does seem to confirm that post booting into W95, "My Computer" >> remains under the evil influence, as previously mentioned >> on the list. > If this is confirmed, on Bastiaan's machine, and on your machine, then > it looks like an incompatibility in the DOS, or at least a difference > between the Win9x internalDOS, and the DOS being used outside Win9x It certainly looks that way. > What clicking on "Your Computer" or clicking on "\\" or doing an > ALT-F2 does is tells Arachne to do a "shell-out-to-DOS" operation. > If it fails, that indicates that the underlieing DOS is not accepting > the command from Arachne. I've just checked ALT-F2, works fine for me, Arachne started from the DOS prompt. What troubles me is I can NOT reproduce Ray Andrews's "Your Computer" problem. When Ray quit's to the W95 DOS prompt and start's Arachne "Your Computer" produces a lock up when you try to re-scan your drives, or enable icons or reload a page. When I quit to the W95 DOS prompt and start Arachne "Your Computer" works fine under all circumstances. Provided "Your Computer" works reliably on a normal DOS O/S machine then as far as I'm concerned we don't have a problem. Regards Laurie
