Dear List:
Well, that's an interesting concept, that. But I found that
not all the APMs behave exactly alike. Some need the user to
be "online" when they are installed. In the past, many of these
APMs have resided at the users "home page" while only a few resided
on the Arachne server. But this could be changed. In 2000 {or was
it 1999} for a short time it seemed that there was a huge number of
APMs for download from www.arachne.cz, but this changed. Some were
taken off, either because they didn't seem to work on some machine,
or maybe Michael just lost interest. But this sounds like a move
toward some centralization of the effort. We must remember that
Michael is getting paid to do web-hosting right now. That's mostly
a for-pay idea, I think. No freebie accounts, like I think Bernie
had in the past at Arachne.cz. But my memory is not flawless.
I could be mistaken about past dealings between Michael and the
others. Who can remember well every post in the last two years?
But I think the addition of some APMs to the website would be
a positive thing, because people are stuck on the idea that DOS
is very static. If DOS is still to be considered the platform
of choice for initial development, then why re-inforce that
"stereotype"?? BTW, I've said enough for awhile. I'm hogging
too much bandwidth for my level of involvement.
yours,
Thomas
