Hi All,
System: 166Pentium/49MbRAM/WIN98SE ver. 4.10.2222
TEST 1: Arachne from DOS box (command line from "run box": arachne.bat )
... Arachne functions fine, no lockups & mouse works.
TEST 2: From WIN98 shutdown menu > "reboot to DOS". Mouse works. Arachne
loads fine, dials but when try "Your computer" she locks up (Processing
'file/@*.*' [HTM] Would you like to have some coffee? Ctrl/Alt/Del ...
Test 3: WIN98 F8 bootup menu "Command prompt only" > No mouse. Loads
fine. Alt-F2 > locks up ... same as Test 2.
Repeated above testing on new puter (700Mhz Athlon/384MbRAM/WIN98SE)
same results.
When I looked at changes Arachne setup made to Autoexec & Config files
there was not the appropriate changes made but a long list of what must
be every error message available (I can send to anyone interested). Note
both these files were empty before I installed Arachne.
Conclusions: Arachne doesn't like FAT32. Somewhat pointless to use
Arachne in a WIN98 Dox box, Mozilla is far superior. Arachne works great
on all my 386/486 DOS machines & I will upgrade to latest ver on one
of those to checkout ... sometime :-)
This 166 will get a Linux install somewhere along the line & I will try
Arachne Linux when that occurs (no WinDoze, no DOS?).
HTH.
later,
rick
