I reported the bug months ago.  At first they
shrugged it off as a bug in my mail client,
but after I told them it happened with four
different mail clients in 3 different OSs and
insisted that they test it, they admitted that
it was a bug in their server.  They said that
they would be doing major work on their server
this spring and that would solve the ASCII 255
problem, so I'm thinking that it's possible
that some other ISPs may have the same server
configuration, and therefore the same problem.
