What kind of router do You have? Most of the hardware routers have built in fire wall capabilities. If this is the caes with Your hardware You should enable ports 20 and 21 in the firewall for FTP and port 23 for telnet (this is called "virtual server" with my Level One Router). Most of these devices can be configured via browser (JS may be required :-() by accesing the IP of the router via http.
