Dear Mr. Gilbreath:
Well, first of all, I'll recognise my own fault. I've re-read my last posting to
the Arachne list and now I see it's excessively repetitive. My apologies to the
entire Arachne community for this.
Now, on YOUR side: Mr. Gilbreath, if you want to make a reprimend or a
(satirical) "piece of advise" on a colleague, friend, etc... what's the purpose
of making it public, thus adding ridicule? And far more important, what's the
purpose of basing thosee "recommendations" on false facts, assumptions, ignorance
and spurious statements? Do yourself and the world a little favor by never, ever
saying anything unless you are positively sure what you say is correct **AND**
you have all the truthful info ("facts", as discussed earlier on the list)
**AND** you've understood and interpreted it the right way...
(non of which is acomplished in this mail)
If you want to say that I should accept life and Arachne list the way it is,
that's something. Calling me a dumb windows mortal user is
something completely different, and totally unnecessary. But it gets even more
serious from here afterwards...
>Second, if you are going to keep using Windows 9X, then please, do the rest
>of us list members a favor and GET AN EMAIL CLIENT BESIDES OUTLOOK
>EXPRESS! Try FoxMail...it's free, smaller, faster...and you can setup your own
Ehem, Mr. Gilbreath...
Would you mind if I asked you WHO IN THE WORLD TOLD YOU I USE OUTLOOK FOR MY E-
MAILING?
Well, obviously you either... a)didn't pay attention, b) didn't read, c) don't
remember, or d) are an extremely recent user. Why? well, in the previous posting
I made to this list (the one when we all discussed the inconvenient behaviour of
Arachne of changing name and date stamp of a mail file whenever you edited it) I
stated out, loud and clear that I USE OPERA FOR MY MAILS. For your convenience
I'll repeat it louder:
I USE OPERA FOR MY E-MAILING
>filters, then if a message from Arachne list comes to your inbox, you filter can
>move it to some other place, which you designate. Don't blame the list members
>for YOUR lack of knowledge. Heck, even Lookout Extreme (Outlook Express)
>can be setup to place mail from certain addresses into various folders...read
>the help files. I for one DO NOT want my ISP looking through my personal email
>for me...I am perfectly capable. As for others doing "list members a favor"...
>since we have heard from a total of, let's count them all up
And so, you're blaming ME for MY lack of knowledge???!!!
Sir, I'm a certified Linux System Manager, a programmer and a Computer Systems
Engineer, who actually HATES everything M$ but actually (and saddly) has to stick
to Windowze and Visual Basic for living - it's the OS and language my clients
have and it's the platform and language they want their applications written
to/in...
I don't like Mozilla nor Eudora, and I HATE Outlook!!!...
Only trouble is Opera has very limited mailing capabilities...
and I thought this list was about FREEDOM of using any damned piece of software
you'd want for browsing, mailing or whatever!!!
I don't have any obligation to explain my situation to an ignorant (whoever makes
false assumptions based on no-evidence or a weak one is either an ignorant or a
liar, or both), but I feel the moral obligation to do so to the rest of the
Arachne community.
May I explain the point a little bit more:
My ISP's (ATT-Mexico) mailing service is accesible both thru POP3 & HTML, and I
can configure both to do those things (redirection to a folder, block adressess,
etc.)... unfortunely, redirection to a specific folder works only when viewing my
mails thru HTML, and the blocking filter was filled with massive spammers IP's
and domains a looooong, long time ago...
That's why I'm BEGGING them (ATT) to either increase the ~40 limit on blocking
list or to block for me some more spammers... Has anybody got any idea on how to
help me?
Furthermore, sending all mail from a particular source to a specific folder gets
it out of your immediate sight, and it isn't always desirable or convenient...
MMMMmmmmhhh... As far as I remember, this was discussed a few weeks ago on the A.
list, or is it you, Mr Gilbreath, simply weren't paying attention (just like
here)?
>you make requests such as that. This list is ALIVE because many of us have
>awakened to reality and "DELTREE C:\WINDOWS"
>Death to Windows...long live alternative operating systems and browsers!
I'll answer this step by step:
About pseudo-humorous "deltree..."
First time I read the pun, I found it quite hilarious... next time - well, I just
smiled. From there on... well, it's quite ANNOYING.
Next:
Please be consistent - if you want to give a chance to alternate browsers... then
don't call me things for being an Opera fan!!!!!
Last:
IMPPO...
If you stick to DOS instead of windows, nothing is really gained: you just keep
being a microserf, an old-fashioned kind... but you're not really out of their
domains. DOS (all of it's flavours: MS, PC, DR, Free, etc.) isn't but a BAD and
very limited copy of UNIX as well as Windows isn't really but a BAD and
restricted (and years behind the state-of-the-art) copy of MacOS...
So, if you REALLY want to use a REAL operating system and quit being just an old
fashioned, antique/arcaic Micro-follower... do yourself a favour and follow the
following steps:
(ask me thru private e-mail for the file boot.img for a REAL OS and the DOS
"rawrite.exe" program)
(copy both to the same folder)
(insert a floppy on A:)
(type this on "c:\" prompt)
rawrite -f boot.img -d a
(reboot from diskette)
(type this on "#" prompt - notice the capitalisation)
rm -sf /dev/hda1/WINDOWS/*
rm -sf /dev/hda1/DOS/*
(then install Linux and become a REAL computer user)
>Oh, and leave my tag line alone, OK? That's been my calling card for, oh, let's
>see now...21 years...besides, you messed up the capitalization.
i recognise my fault on this last one, too: I'm lazy & inconsistent with my usage
of capitals... so what?!
>ps...this reply is meant to be FUN...not serious...if I wanted serious, heck,
>I'd just stay at work 24-7-365!
You mean you don't work on feb-29th, each time we have that day on calendar???
Now, I'll get serious...
FUN is something...
"Satirical" or "cynical" could be more appropiate adjectives to your mails...
Although this one actually was QUITE AGGRESSIVE and OFFENSIVE at some points.
Please, change your attitude - you gain nothing from hurting innecesarily someone
else, nor by acting as though he/she were a dumb mere mortal user...
Except, perhaps, having ME acting aggressively too.
Nothing more.
FINALLY
Try not to make assumptions on other people or their concerns, knowledge, needs
and/or acts unless you have all the info. at hand.
You didn't know anything at all from me, but that didn't stop you from calling me
things and making assumptions which are obviously incorrect, some of which I find
even offenisve.
Remember: it's never too late to learn something new, nor to change bad
habits/attitudes we
have. Think of it.
Sincerely
Jose Antonio
