Thanks for note regarding mime.cfg - that bit looks useful. The printer I was thinking about is a Kyocera. It's got a whole load of fonts and character sets. The following are clearly cyrillic:
PC Cyrillic Win Cyrillic ISO Cyrillic USSR GOST I've got detail of the last, and I know that's NOT the same as KOI8-R. Maybe the 'Win' set listed is CP-1251. It would be handy if either of the others were KOI8-R. I understand that KOI8-R is more of a Unix standard than a PC one. I've got a prog that will convert, XCODE, I could prob even do my own to do a simple KOI8-R --> whatever if I had to. I was just wondering if the KIO8-R was known by another name?
