By my reading, the dirent.h license is very similar to a two-clause BSD 
license. Standard two/three clause BSD licensed code can be mixed with GPL 
code without any issues. I think the only additional thing we need to bear 
in mind is to include a copy of the dirent.h license with any binaries 
that are built with the code (although the license doesn't explicitly 
state that as a requirement).
