There used to be a gnash-kde package. It was removed as it not longer
worked with kde4. gnash-common was providing files that were common to
both gnash-kde and gnash-gtk.
If it makes sense, could gnash-common be renamed to just gnash?
Perhaps. If there's no plan to readd a gnash-kde in the future.
