<snip> I feel the most tedious part of being kernel maintainer is doing the rebuilds of third party modules I don't personally care about. IMHO we should have DKMS for all external modules, and then use strict dependency versioning for packaged binary modules, so it becomes package (not kernel) maintainer responsibility to rebuild it.
