I avoid non-rolling releases for friends and family. They are more work not less.

While it is true that rolling releases occasionally require some small manual intervention (for 1 item). Fedora requires a fresh install for every major release. So that means major (as in huge) manual intervention every 6 months (possibly 12 if you're willing to skip a version). Plus, remote maintenance can also be a challenge.

That's not true, and never was. Upgrading between releases has always been supported. Nowadays, you can even do it graphically with the same app you are suggesting your friends/family to upgrade Arch in Gnome, or with Discover in KDE Plasma. It couldn't be simpler. For people familiar with Windows or macOS updates, the procedure is almost identical.

I prefer a rolling release with small occasional changes - whether for my own machines or for low-to-no tech others. I know when manual intervention is required for my own machines and therefore know when anything is needed for others. With Arch, this has been very low frequency.

The maintenance burden since dropping redhat/fedora went down by 2 orders of magnitude.

Fair enough.
