That seems to be the case, except that a BIOS boot partition in a way
has no file system.

However, I can't speak from personal experience on this, because my GPU
doesn't let me select the legacy BIOS. I'm forced to use an EFI
partition and keep running into one unpleasant surprise after another,
like the day before yesterday, when a firmware update enabled Secure
Boot and I could no longer boot Arch Linux, and Secure Boot couldn't
simply be disabled. Before I could do that, I first had to figure out
how to get out of what's called "Deploy Mode" and before that, I had to
even learn that "Deploy Mode" existed in the first place. The same thing
apparently happened after a previous firmware update, but downgrading
the firmware saved me, since the motherboard support team had no idea
what the problem might be. The day before yesterday, however, even a
downgrade didn't help anymore. So I had to set aside a lot of time and
read through half the Internet.
