Hence why I always recommend not building PKGBUILDs as root... you dunno what you're doing cactus :P
I don't build them as root. The software utility I was building contained a custom Install file, that umasked to 077 before creating the installation directories in pkg/. When packman installed the package, all the directories that were created in the package tarball were remasked with the new permissions. Odd to say the least.
