I'm not really sure it's a k3b problem since I get the same thing
sometimes with Firefox (with both kdebase -2 and -3 it I think). 
However, I don't need to reboot to get it fixed:  so far the worst
case scenario has just been to CTRL+ALT+BACKSPACE and then I relogin.
