Hello again, 

I just read the wiki, and changed the system to udev.

The system boots fine, but the mouse problem is still exactly the same. This 
must be some exotic hardware problem...

Addendum: Just booted a knoppix cd, same problem...so what do I do now? It 
would be a real pisser to have to replace the entire motherboard because of a 
faulty mouse port...
