I was quoted in your email, so let's clarify this. ~I~ wrote that the original poster had some good points. When I began using Arch, there were few docs, and my page on Arch was listed in the docs section. (It later got moved to reviews, as it became dated.) When I first started using Arch, it was small, and there were many essential programs not yet put into PKGBUILDs. Then it became more popular and the TUR thing started--that's when it began to become a pain in the neck, one had to go their sites, or rework pacman.conf. One would submit PKGBUILDS but, like any other distribution going through growing pains, they often just sat there till some dedicated people cleaned everything up. > > Even better is when people say "let's do this like FreeBSD, and this > like FreeBSD, and this too" - why not use FreeBSD? Most of the time I do. :) The OP mentioned some things about FreeBSD that he considered a good thing. I also think so, though I did add the line that it might, as long as Arch is a completely volunteer effort, not be at all practical. At any rate, Arch will go through its growing pains, and yes, there does have to be some control with user submitted builds. I don't wish to get into a flame war here, however, I think the fact that you included - ------------------------------------------------- > On 7/30/05, Scott <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- > > Hash: SHA1 > > > > On Sat, Jul 30, 2005 at 03:37:47PM +0100, Philip Dillon-Thiselton wrote: > > > "How I want Arch Linux to become, IMHO" - very humble!
