Hello,
Sorry my english is not very good.
I had the same problem with my Fedora 4, and I found this.
You must replace the file libvgahw.a in your distrib by this, and restart X.
ftp://people.redhat.com/mharris/libvgahw.a
And If you want Dual head with your Matrox, you need to install this
drivers :
ftp://ftp.matrox.com/pub/mga/archive/linux/2003/mgadrivers-3.0.tgz
And normally it will works.
The libvgahw.a thing is over-optimized by GCC 4.0, which causes these
problems. I'm currently packaging a new snapshot of gcc that should be
fixed.
This maybe why my Nvidia FX 5200 slowed down so much... It simply seemds
to not load a
GCC 3.4.3 compiled module against the new X.org. After redoing the
Nvidia install all is well
again. :-?
