Omni reminds me of the evil samurai Omni-San from James Clavell's Shogun and Noodly reminds of the characther Robert de Niro played in Once Upon a Time in America - a gangster named Noodles... This discussion however seems pointless as it is quite obvious to me that the first suggestion Omni seems to be favoured the most by a long shot by Judd. I don't see what was the point then in asking in the newsletter for suggestions... Since our ability to influence the name of the release is apparently a DOGMA I personally would find it most amusing the see the following announcement on distrowatch - "The development team of Arch Linux is pleased to announce the general availability of its new release Arch Linux 0.8 Dogma"...

OK, OK, OK I read the thread... so I'll share my opinion too :)

Omni is by far the best so far :)

The problem with Noodly is that, quite simply, it's passe and refers to a "flash in the pan" phenomenon that either a) most people might not be aware of, or b) people might think is just ridiculous, anyway. Why associate something a serious project that is developing very strongly with something so flippant, temporary and fake?

As far as Slayer and Widow? Why would Arch want to associate itself with something so grim?

I have never seen such a huge response to such an asinine issue - this is MUCH worse then the "How do you pronounce Arch?" thread. I mean, like anyone is going to search through that whole thread for good suggestions! Well, I guess they might...

:D

Anyway, have fun with it :)

I agree... "Omni" is much better. Come on people, the name doesn't
matter so much. Before 3 or 4 years I choose arch, because its users seemed to me to be
more ..mature. Let's prove it.. Just choose someone that has to decide
about the name, and finish with it without any more bla-bla.
