It was -S for everything. Shouldn't the .conf be saved for both removal
and upgrade?

The pkgs in [community] and [dibble] are the same so I don;t think
that will make any difference. When I remove hibernate it saves the
.conf file but not when I upgrade it.
Did you use -S for both or did you use -U for one or the other?

I did -Syu last night, and among others, I got new versions of two
[community] packages, slim and hibernate-script. The respective
PKGBUILDs contain the lines
backup=(etc/slim.conf)
and
backup=('etc/hibernate/hibernate.conf')
During the upgrade, /etc/slim.conf was pacsaved, but
/etc/hibernate/hibernate.conf was not. Looking at various other
PKGBUILDs, the fact that hibernate-script has single quotes and slim
doesn't should not make any difference. The only significant
difference that I can see is that my pacman.conf has two repos which
provide hibernate-script, [community] and [dibble]. Is it possible
that pacman was confused by this in some way?
