Not sure what the "proper" way is to fix this from a hal/dbus/udev perspective, but IIRC, if you just put an appropriate entry into your fstab (e.g.: "/dev/sda1 /media/ipod vfat user,noauto 0 0") then I think hal/dbus will mount it in the right place.
