Do you have a "Keytronic Ergoforce" (something like that) keyboard?
I've been having some random hang-ups with one of those...

Otherwise - when you loose the ability to use your keyboard, while in X, it's 
probably some program that steals the focus and crashes, taking the keyboard 
focus with it in it's fall (Just like in the good old windows 98-days!).

What you describe sounds very strange, tho :(
