Hmm, strange.  All tests worked fine here.  After switching the consoles
to UTF-8 mode, the previous text is garbled, but bootup continues find,
and text written after the UTF-8 change is not garbled.

Where did it stop booting?  What was the last thing displayed on the
screen?
