The only category that really doesn't match it's name is a/ (which
stands for base)

The main reason for that is the next one (ap/ for applications) has a
proper proper abbreviation, but the base system has to be installed
first. I mean Pat could have named it b (for base) and move ap to cap
(console apps), but a and ap work just as well...

it follows the same reasoning for why under a/ the basic libs and FS
info packages start with aaa_... To be sure it's installed first.

the rest of the categories are not too hard to figure out:
ap - Applications
d -  development
e - emacs (so bloated it needs its own category :P)
f - FAQs and documentation
k - kernel packages
kde - duh
kdei - kde i18n
l - libs
n - network packages
t - TeX typesetting stuff
x - X :P
xap - X applications
y - games...

Ok, there's 2 for which the abbreviation doesn't match... but games
are pushed towards the end for a reason :P
