Apologies, I stand corrected - following your instructions to the
letter (disabling Shorewall and rebooting, not just stopping
Shorewall), does allow Java to run properly.

Should I try setting  "DISABLE_IPV6=No" in
/etc/shorewall/shorewall.conf? Or does that make my machine
vulnerable?
