It's an incompatibility between kernel 2.6.15 and ATI's drivers.  
There's a patch on the Arch forums[1] (it's a short thread, easy to find 
the patch) that's working well enough for me, but as far as I know ATI 
doesn't officially support 2.6.15 yet.
