Like the OP, I've been using Arch for a few months after coming from
many years of Slackware, and some dabbling in other distros. I
experienced the same problems he mentions. The problems were documented
in the mailing list and the wiki, so the solutions were always easily
found, but that's not the point. Slackware stability has spoiled us.
These problems just don't happen there. If a package is working before
a minor upgrade, it will work after as well. With Arch, for the OP,
myself, and obviously others, critical packages needed tweeks after a
minor upgrade just to work. To me, this means that it was released too
soon. Perhaps that extra cash donated for a new server could be
invested in a computer for compiling/testing which is held back at the
"stable" level. Once you have more stability, you can use your own
release for your server. Save yourself the M$ tax.

Arch has pacman and abs which are truly amazing. It doesn't have the
stability that Slackware is known for. Still, Arch has spoiled me in
package management. For my own desktop, I don't care too much about
stability. For my servers, I do.

Maybe Rubix....

Mike
