Hello all, I am a new convert to Arch.

First of all...
I started with Red Hat 5.2 wen to to Mandrake, then to Slackware, back to Red Hat, then to Gentoo next Debian and finally Arch. --- Have been using it for 2 months now and all I can say is, "wow", you guys have really done it right.

Now on to the question, I am not one that submits questions because I usualy figure them out myself or find solutions via a Google search, however, I haven't been able to work this one out.

I am running KDE 3.5.1, not much installed besides the usual stuff. Sound works out of the box in KDE, other apps work too, most notably Mplayer and Flash. However, Gaim doesn't seem to cooperate, no sound at all.

Can you guys break down the fundamentals here? What are the audio basics I should have? Hopefully this thread can serve for good overall Arch Linux sound support .

Thanks again!

Shayne
