Some apps check if network connection available, it possibly could increase 
apps start time. 
In case of acroread, i`d suggest to chmod -x all .api files in 
/opt/acrobat/Reader/intellinux/plug_ins/.
In case of kile, i guess it loads half of kde on start (if you don`t use this 
de), so no real suggestions except changing app to something DE-independent.
