Hi, I have successfully moved the computer-based aspects of my life from Debian to Arch.
(I moved because Debian has too much unnecessary complexity.) Thanks, Judd, for writing Pacman and founding Arch. Since the install process is still fresh in my mind, let me point out something that threw me that might be easy for Arch to change. First time through the arch/setup program on install CD, I saw a package named "sysvinit" and said, "Oh, but I do not want sysvinit: I want BSD-style init," and I deselected that package, which of course made the system rather difficult to use. So, my humble little suggestion is to rename "sysvinit" to something like "init". Now I realize that the name "sysvinit" is better suited to _maintainers_ of Arch, but I hope you will agree with me that it is ok to make life a little more difficult for maintainers to make life a bit easier for people installing and trying out Arch for the first time. _______________________________________________ arch mailing list [email protected] http://www.archlinux.org/mailman/listinfo/arch
