I had this exact problem with a machine at work with a SiS onboard card 
- inside X, the video would flicker like nobody's business whenever I 
typed or moved the mouse.  If I did nothing, the screen was fine.  My 
solution was to get a Matrox agp card and use that.  :P  (ie. I couldn't 
fix it.)
